DELFT - FLOWER BASKETS
Tiles illustrating flower baskets are reminiscent of summer bouquets and countryside. Shown here are individual tiles from our standard collection, but any of these designs can be painted to a larger or installation of panels of four, nine, sixteen or more tiles, either in a square or rectangular format. They are perfect for use in the kitchen or areas such as a fireplace, fire surround, or mantelpiece area.
Gaillardia
Flower baskets are always a pretty way of decorating a tile and they hark back to a period of grandeur and splendour, suggesting the grand floral display. Flowers shown in baskets or other flower containers can range from the formal to the more picturesque country garden flower arrangement.
Historically, flower basket tiles showed a great variety of varying flowers being used for decoration with the most prominent being the tulip, however, carnations, lilies, fritillaries and irises were also commonly used. The containers shown on delft tiles varied from country woven baskets to stately stone urns, intricate metal caskets to painted ceramics vases.
Our collection of flower basket tiles looks at home in areas such as fire surrounds and in kitchens. Behind an Aga or a Rayburn stove is a perfect place to install a decorative tile panel. If the panel needs to look slightly less busy or intense, then perhaps using flower basket tiles as highlights amongst plainer, less decorated tiles can be a very suitable result. Individual tiles used as highlights or making a checker board by alternating plain and decorated tiles is always excellent and if you want something larger, then perhaps an urn mural containing a floral display might be very appropriate.
