Our ranges of hand-painted delft tiles are inspired by historical examples from England and Holland dating from the seventeenth century. With this collection, our aim has been to capture the spontaneous painting style that placed delft tiles from this period at the pinnacle of tile production. The subjects we have chosen reflect the most popular images used then, however we have further extensive designs in our portfolio and are happy to discuss your requirements.

Tiling since the 17th century has always been an important device used by architects and builders alike, both in the far east and closer to home. European tiling, particularly from Holland and England, has been used to create grand statements as well as being used in more functional areas where hygiene was of importance. The kitchen, food preparation areas and bathrooms, to name a few places where ease of cleaning was of importance, were areas where tiling was used regularly. Decoration was a natural and logical extension to the tiled surface. Whole rooms and even complete houses, both inside and out, have been decorated in this way. The fascination with the decorative porcelains being imported from the east led to tiles being made to imitate the blue and white decoration from the orient. Great fire stoves made of blue and white decorated tiles were common in the 18th century, standing many feet high. We continue this tradition in our own studio with our more conservative sized stove.
