DELFT - POLYCHROME FLOWERS

This flower collection includes many of Europe's favourite flowers from the seventeenth century. Bright and colourful with a freshness and charm, our polychrome flower tiles are the perfect accessory for today's kitchens. The tile examples shown here are decorated on a cream glaze that lends an extra warmth to the finished effect. They are also available in soft white and crackle glazes and we do have further flower designs in our portfolio.

Flower tiles are amongst the most attractive of all delft tiles. Painted in both blue and white and polychrome colours, these tiles were produced in England and Holland over several centuries. Some of the earliest Dutch tiles depict flowers with the tulip being the most frequently illustrated. Its popularity on tiling was due to the fact that the tulip became a highly prized possession. The demand for tulips became so intense that by the 1630's the phenomenon of tulipomania was born and fortunes were made and lost in the trading of tulip bulbs that followed. Eventually, the Dutch courts prevented this speculation in order to restore stability.

We offer a collection of twelve of the most typical flowers depicted in traditional delft tiling. The polychrome colouring works well on our cream glaze, the warmth of the background perfectly complementing the subtlety and delicacy of the flower painting. These tiles are very well suited to kitchens, as work area wall panels or splash-backs, and the warm cream colour fits well with Agas and Rayburns, too.

The twelve flowers in our collection represent a cross section of the designs in our portfolio. Should you wish to use more than twelve designs in your installation, please contact us for details of further designs we are able to offer. It is also possible for us to paint these designs in traditional delft style blue and white decoration.
