Project development plan for an Arcadian Landscape mural

The client required a tiled panel for installation behind a new Aga in a barn con-version project. A preference was shown for an 'Arcadian Scene', inspired by a love of Poussin's 17th century landscape paintings. Classical blue and white painting in traditional cobalt oxide was selected to depict the panel.

The client had a clear idea of what he wanted for this installation so liaising over the final design was an important part of the project.

Layout for Aga central panel and flanking walls, shown above, and detailed final drawing
for the mural, right.

The final finished panel laid out ready for installation.

Carol Francis submitted drawings for the client's approval after studying the pictorial techniques and style of painting in Poussin's work. It is important for us to get as much information as possible on what the client visualises in order to create a successful interpretation.

Suggestions of how to approach the tiling of the side panels were offered and the client chose from a number of options.

The final installation has provided a successful focal point within a large space.
